by admin

Luxury brand,Gucci has selected 11 new Designers for their 2020 Gucci Fellowship Program. Two Ghanaian Designers, Steve French and Afua Biney are among the top picks out of hundreds of participants around the globe. Fellows were selected through design competitions and the winners were announced on Oct 25,2019. Afua Biney has been chosen for children wear, and Steve French for women wear.

10 designers were going to be selected, but that quickly changed as The CEO of Gucci, Marco Bizzarri, liked the work of an 11th participant, who is Ghanaian. Bizzarri said, “The 11th designer from Ghana was a decision taken today, the team did not want to let him go.”

Gucci is one of the leading luxury brands around the globe, founded in Florence, Italy in 1921. The Fellowship Program is an initiative of Gucci to promote cultural diversity launched in March 2019.The program is aimed at helping “underrepresented” groups get into fashion.  The Designers will join Alessandro Michele and his team in Gucci’s Rome studio as full time employees starting March 2020.

This a big win for the Ghanian Fashion community and all Ghanaians around the globe!
