Chelsea is set to compete with Arsenal for the signing Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey. Partey has been connected with Arsenal all through this transfer window with Atletico Madrid turning down an offer from the Gunners.

Chelsea has said that Partey is a non-expensive substitute to West Ham’s Declan Rice and are set to bid for him.

The Telegraph revealed that Chelsea has observed Partey in recent months and Frank Lampard is satisfied that the 27-year-old is the correct man for the defending midfield role.

Partey has a $50million release requirement which should be activated by any club who needs his service.

It has been disclosed that he has rejected a new contract from Atletico Madrid and is bent on leaving the club this season.

Arsenal was originally thought to be leaders but with Chelsea now joining the race, the Gunners will have to act quickly if they are to get him.

A move to Chelsea will call the Black Stars coach CK Akonnor who has instructed the midfielder not to join Arsenal since they are not a Champions League team.

Akonnor remarked on Starr FM that he would like Partey to prolong his stay at Atletico Madrid and have fun in Champions League football.

“I wouldn’t want Thomas Partey to move to Arsenal because, with Atletico Madrid, he’ll always play in the Champions League. It will be difficult for Arsenal to qualify for the Champions League,” he said.

Akonnor is lately known as Partey as one of his 3 captains. Partey will be the deputy to essential skipper Andre Ayew.

Partey has also been named in the Black Stars team for the Mali and Qatar friendlies recently this month.
