The move is in response to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommendation for countries to reinforce their health systems following the outbreak of the deadly disease in China, which began in Wuhan City.
Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu said the government had provided 2.5 million GH funds to finance national preparedness in the country to prevent infection with coronavirus.
He told Parliament yesterday that his ministry has launched the phase of acquisition of 10,000 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) for all frontline health workers who may be engaged in the prevention and treatment of the disease.
Ghana’s Public Health Emergency Management Structures at the state, provincial and district levels were put on high alert as part of efforts to better manage operations.
A National Technical Coordination Committee was also established, including specialists from numerous health and safety departments, and stakeholders engaged in the disease.
