Ghana Union of Traders Association at Kasoa has threatened to close down all the shops of foreigners involved in the retail business. According to GUTU, the engagement of foreigners in retail business has resulted in the failure of their businesses.
For some years now, GUTA has been fighting some foreigners over the retail business in Ghana. In 2020, members of GUTA forcibly shut down a few foreigners’ shops in Great Accra and Kumasi.

The General Secretary of GUTA at Kasoa revealed that the members of the association are unhappy with the involvement of foreigners in the retail business. According to the secretary, this trend does not seem to end anytime soon. He further requested the government to address the matter to avoid future trouble.

“The foreigners have taken over the market and this is why GUTA is complaining, they have taken over all across the country but as it is now, Kasoa is the strongest area for these foreigners. So, we are requesting the government to come to our aid,” the secretary narrated.

“The law says that a foreigner cannot do retail except Ghanaians but foreigners are doing retail in our market and so we will close their shops. We will enforce the law to close their shops,” he stated.
