by admin

William Amponsah, a student at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has set a new record in the 10,000 meters event at the 2020 Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games currently underway at the University of Ghana.

William Amponsah, a 20-year-old student of the University of Education, is striving hard to change the perception regarding long-distance running in Ghana as Kenyans have dominated the sport for a very long time.

He was the winner of the 2019 Kwahu Easter Marathon. In 2019, he won the two topmost marathon events in Ghana – the Kwahu Easter Mountain Marathon and Millennium Marathon where he set new records at both competitions.

Amponsah set a new record at the Kwahu Marathon after clocking a time of 2:29:16 in the 42km race while he broke the Millennium Marathon record after running an impressive time of 1:06:22 in the 21km event.

He said that through his running, he wants to prove that Ghanaians can be great at long-distance running. His main goal is to make Ghana proud.
