John Mahama vows to scrap rape victim’s medical exam fee

by The Ghana HIT

One of the greatest obstacles in obtaining justice after a sexual assault incident is the requirement to pay for the medical exam.

Sexual assault victims for instance rape are obliged to submit a medical exam when filing their complaints with the Ghana Police Service. For police to carry on with their investigations, the medical exam is required.

Nevertheless, the Majority of the victims have been forced to terminate their fight for justice because of the high medical exam charges of up to GH¢800.

This indicates that When the victim can’t afford the medical fee a lot of rape cases are neither reported nor pursued.

To solve this, John Dramana Mahama the former president has vowed to scrap the medical charges for sexual assault victims. This means that the sexual assault victims will get free medical care therefore they will easily obtain justice.
