Samira Bawumia has rejected salary; says she will refund allowances paid since 2017

Samira Bawumia, wife to the Vice President of Ghana has joined the first lady in rejecting the proposed salaries which we to be paid to wives of heads of state. Samira says that she took the decision after consulting her husband Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.

Samira Bawumia went on to state that she was going to refund all the allowances she had received since 2017. In this decision, she followed that of the first lady who has refunded all the allowances paid to her.

A communication from the office of the Vice President stated that: “The Second lady, H.E Samira Bawumia in consultation with H.E The Vice President, will refund all allowances paid to her since 2017 and will not accept any monies allocated to her pursuant to the recommendation of the Prof. Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu led committee, as approved by Parliament on 6th January 2021.

“Mrs. Bawumia continues to be committed to the service of the nation; to deliver humanitarian interventions and initiatives in the areas of health, education, and economic empowerment.”
