Malawi is the first African nation to destroy AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines. The vaccines were supplied last month by COVAX, the international equitable vaccine distribution platform. Following advice from the African Centres for Diseases (Africa CDC), that the expired jabs have no use, Malawi destroyed the vaccines today in presence of Health Minister Khumbize and Chiponda, and other key officials.
Besides, South Sudan has also had a similar experience to Malawi. Also, the Democratic Republic of Congo returned more than a million jabs to COVAX, fearing the jabs might get expired before the entire vaccination exercise was finished.
