The general secretary of the NDC, has revealed the reason behind refusing to vie for the position of the speaker after privately being requested to vie by the minority leader. The minority leader had requested both Asiedu Nkeita and Alban Bagbin to vie for speakership.
While speaking during an interview, Asiedu Nketia said that since the current speaker is a lawyer, he had an added advantage and therefore, he allowed him to contest for the position. “Alban Bagbin had been a deputy Speaker before and I knew how much he was liked; if the NPP had approached that election with that seriousness I believe Bagbin would have won with more than 20 votes, but the way it went that is how the margin of victory became that low.”
