Facebook appoints a Ghanaian lady to its oversight board

by The Ghana HIT

Facebook has appointed Afia Asantewaa Asare-Kyei to its newly created oversight board. The board was created to review some content decisions by both Instagram and Facebook before making decisions. The board has three Africans including Afia from Ghana, Julie Owono from Cameroon, and Maina Kiai from Kenya.

Facebook has been receiving a lot of criticism about the regulation of its content putting into consideration human rights and freedom of speech. This is what led Facebook to create an oversight board.

Ghanaians took to social media to congratulate Afia for the appointment. Many said that the human rights lawyer was well suited for the position and would perform well.
