A Ghanaian citizen has become the new male athlete of the month in West Texas and A&M University. The university’s athletics team posted their final decision through their Twitter handle.

Benjamin Azamati and Shanna McBroom received the male and female athlete of the month reward. In March, Benjamin broke the record in history, for being the first Ghanaian to record the best results in a 100 meters race. He broke the record of Leo Myles-Mills by finishing the relay within 9.97 seconds during the Texas relays.

The Sports minister wrote a congratulatory message,” Congratulations to Benjamin Azamati for his historic 9.97run, which broke the 22-year-old national 100m record held by Leo Myles-Mills and also qualifying him for Tokyo Olympics. Azamati’s background as a former school athlete and his remarkable rise to prominence is the reason we want to revamp and pay more attention to inter-school competitions to be able to unearth and develop more such talents for our country.”
