Ghana Revenue Authority has requested employees to file tax returns

Mr. Akogo has advised Public sector employees to file for tax reliefs and acquire great benefits, which will reduce their tax burden. He said this while speaking during a workshop organized by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) on Personal Income Tax Returns for its members. Mr. Victor Yao Akogo explained that; “When the reliefs are applied it will be upfront should the employers’ effect it on the payslips”.

According to him GRA was not only planned to collect taxes from the public but was also to make sure that taxpayers got what belongs to them. Mr. Akogo said that some of the available reliefs to employees include GHC1,200 for the married, GHC600 per child who schools in Ghana (maximum of three children), 25% for disabled people, and GHC1,000 for aged dependants (maximum of two). The people 60 years and above, can apply for relief of GHC1,500.

Besides the stated that employees were also to apply for GHC2,000 for the cost of training if they embarked on a professional course. He emphasized that other employees who embarked on a voluntary pension were entitled to GHc13,000.00 tax relief.
