Ghana Youth for Development has requested the people of Ghana not to purchase a sachet of water at 30 Pesewas. The group is urging Ghanaians to resist the increased price. Some sellers have increased the price by 20% from the original price. “Some Ghanaians have just increased the price to cheat Ghanaians hence the call. The police must arrest people selling pure water at 30 pesewas,” the group stated.
“Previously, it was Ghc3.50 so that the common pure water sellers who do not have money to purchase a refrigerator will go there and buy the already chilled water and sell. After selling a bag of sachet water, the profit of GHc2.50 is gained. Today, the price has been increased from GHc3.00 to GHc3.50 per bag so the one who has bought his/her own fridge to chill the water for the common pure water seller has increased the price from GHc3.50 to GHc4.00, which is very reasonable.”
The group emphasized that by purchasing the sachet of water at 30 pesewas you are helping the sellers cheat the ordinary people at the streets.”
Furthermore, the team requested the Ghana Police service, the inspector-General of police, James Oppong-Boanuh, to order his men to enforce an order that, “there should be no increase in price to the ordinary man in the street.”
