The widow of Reggae legend Bob Marley was honored with the Ghanaian citizenship by President Nana Akufo-Addo on Nov 27th, 2019.
The ceremony was part of the series of activities commemorating the ‘Year of Return’.
Rita Marley, who is now 73-years-old, is officially a citizen of Ghana. She was one out of 126 Africans who were presented with the status. President Akufo approved the application of the African-American diasporans.
Rita Marley has deep love for Ghana and has been supporting Ghana through her Foundation, “The Rita Marley Foundation” for over a decade. She’s participated in projects that enhance the educational system. Including scholarships and constructing new schools for Ghana’s youth.
The President urged them to “respect and abide by the laws of Ghana; live in accordance with the tenets of Ghana’s Constitution; and guard jealously the country’s image.”
