Get to know Ghanaian Actor Joseph Van Vicker

Van Vicker is a popular Ghanaian actor born in 1977 to a Dutch father and a Liberian mother. He often refers to himself as a global citizen because after his father died he traveled all over the world with his mother, therefore, growing up in diverse cultures.  @iam_vanvicker

Van Vicker started his career as a radio presenter at Groove 106.3fm and Vibe 91.9fm between 1999 and 2004. During this period he also became a TV personality working with both Metro TV and TV3 Ghana. It was during this period when he featured in his first series called the Suncity playing the role of LeRoy King Jr. a student who had traveled from the US to complete his studies in Suncity.

After his first appearance, Van Vicker quickly joined the film industry fully in Ghana before making his breakthrough in Nollywood. In Nollywood, he worked with some famous actors such as Mercy Johnson, Chika Ike, and Tonto Dinkeh among others. He featured in some Nollywood sensation movies such as Heart of Fire, My Soul Mate, Harvest of Love, The Kingdom, and Against the Law among many others.

Through acting, Van Vicker has won numerous awards such as the NAFCA Best Actor, Best international actor, Africa Channel’s Creative Achievement Award and Best Comedy movie.

Other than acting and directing Van Vicker is a family man and is married to LaRika Van Vicker. He has three children, two daughters from his current wife, Adjoa Vicker and a son from a past relationship. 

He also has an outreach program for the youth called the Van Vicker Foundation and a Van Vicker Training facility where students are taught acting.

His most recent work was in the movie titled ‘AMA’ in which he plays the ‘bad boy’ role. #AMAmovie is a compelling story that educates and informs the public about how people are exploited and abused in the modern days.
