ACI Declares Kotoka International Airport the Best in Africa

by The Ghana HIT

The Airports Council International (ACI) has adjudged Kotoka International Airport (KIA) the best airport in Africa in terms of passenger volume. The Airport Service Quality (ASQ), is the ACI’s body that surveys the performance of airports across the world and awards them based on customers’ judgment. According to the ASQ survey, Kotoka International Airport has been deemed the best airport in the continent particularly within the category of airports catering for between two and five million passengers per year.

“This year more than any other, the awards recognize those airports that have listened to their customers and adapted the services and experiences they offer to meet changing needs and expectations under very trying circumstances,” Luis Felipe de Oliveira, ACI World’s director stated before proceeding on to say, “I am proud of the achievements of all ASQ award winners which shows their focus on delivering excellence in customer experience and setting an example of excellence for their peers…As we come together as an industry to meet the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the focus on customers that the ASQ program provides will help guide the way.”

ACI also recognized Kenya’s Kenyatta International Airport (five to 15 million passengers annually) and Moi International Airport in Mombasa (under two million passengers per year), as well as Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Nigeria as the other airports in the continent that have performed pretty well. During the disclosure, it was however noted that the COVID-19 pandemic had a dramatic impact on global passenger traffic in 2020 as well as changing customer perceptions and expectations of the airport experience.

Besides the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, ACI managed to collect ASQ surveys from their customers throughout the year and 89 individual airports around the world have received a total of 108 awards.
