At least 9,000 workers in the hospitality industry have lost their jobs due to COVID-19

by The Ghana HIT

Statistics in Ghana show that at least 9,000 workers in the hospitality industry have lost their jobs. The majority of these were working in the hotels and guest houses. The report from the Ghana Progressive Hoteliers Association shows that the workers were fired because of the lack of business in the hospitality industry.

Most of the hotels in Ghana have closed down with the few open ones operating at minimal capacity. The Ghana Progressive Hoteliers Association manages 400 hotels that have 12,000 workers. Out of the 12,000 workers, 9,000 have lost their jobs. This meant that the number could be higher because many hotels are not members of the association.
