According to the latest statistics, the number of people who spent their night in hotels during the Christmas period was higher compared to other days of the year. Besides, more conferences were held in various hotels, therefore boosting the status of the industry.

The president of the Association, Dr. Edward Ackah Nyamike, said, “Careful observation and feedback from members and clients point to the general increase in occupancy rate during the Christmas season. Although significantly lower than what was recorded in 2019.” “There is also an increase in the use of the hotel’s grounds and conference hall for various events during the festive period,” he stressed.

Furthermore, Dr. Edward Ackah Nyamike, noted that “moving into 2021, the hotel industry is cautiously optimistic looking at what is happening in other countries as far as Covid-19 is concerned.”

The president of the hotel association also said that they had great hopes for the promotion of local tourism and a nice business environment. “It is obvious that a big chunk of our international market in terms of international visits to Ghana will be lost. Our hope lies in the aggressive promotion of domestic tourism and the creation of a conducive business environment by Ghana.”
